Introduction

'An apple a day keeps the doctor away'  learning English is also an every day process to help you improve your language. Follow the English project and you will find learning English is fun, interesting and exciting.

Day 1/Monday
Class A and B
• Love your country. Your country is the land where your parents sleep, where is spoken that language in which the chosen of your heart, blushing, whispered the first word of love; it is the home that God has given you that by striving to perfect yourselves therein you may prepare to ascend to him. 
1. What is the name of the person who said the above quote?
2. ‘It is the home that God has given you’. What is referred here as the ‘home’?
3. How would you show your love to the country? 
4. What are the symbols that signify a country? 
Class C and D
• Nature provides a free lunch, but only if we control our appetites 
• Take care of the earth and she will take care of you.  
• We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children

1. How do you think the environment will be in 20years time?
2. What are the causes of all the pollutions in the world?
3. What can you do to save the Mother Nature?
Class E and F
• Who finds a faithful friend, finds a treasure. 
• A true friend is someone who is there for you when he'd rather be anywhere else 
• Truly great friends are hard to find, difficult to leave and impossible to forget

2. Why is he or she your best friend?
3. What are the qualities that you like the most in your best friend?

Day 2/ Tuesday

Class A and B

The public toilet above has been terribly vandalized. What would you do if you came across this toilet in your township? Discuss the steps you would take to make the authorities aware of the vandalized toilet. Discuss also the solutions you would suggest to the authorities. At the end of your discussion, choose one person from your group to present:
a) the steps your group would take to make the authorities aware.
b) the solutions your group would suggest to the authorities.
c) why
this should be dealt with. ( looks ugly, unhygienic etc.)
*Remember to use the tips on presenting that your teacher has discussed with you.

Presentation Tips:
Confidence!!
Clarity of speech. (Make sure voice is loud and clear)
Try not say ‘uhm..’, ‘ahh..’(Don’t fidget)
Smile. (Not too much)
Stand straight, don’t slouch.
Eye contact with audience.
You may hold small cue cards, NOT A4 papers.

'The Voice Within'       

Activity 1: Listen to the song ‘The Voice Within’ by Christina Aguilera. 
The song will be played twice and pay attention to the following phrases as you listen to the song: 
1. ‘Trust the voice within’
2. ‘Stand your ground’
3. ‘Life is a journey
It can take you anywhere choose to go 
As long as you’re learning

Activity 2: Replace the phrases below with your own words

3. ‘If we both hang on for long enough
we both somehow are strong enough
we’ll find out where we belong’

Activity 2: Get into group of three. Discuss and write down the meanings of each phrase.

Activity 2: Identify the most suitable situation to describe each phrase. 

1. ‘Wear a mask’
a. Cover the face with mask to conceal one’s identity.
b. No freedom to have choices in life.
c. To protect oneself from being hurt physically.
d. Hide one’s feelings to pretend to be someone else. 

2. ‘Hide my heart’
a. I have to seal my heart from any hurt.
b. I have to keep myself away from others. 
c. No rooms in the heart for any other matters.
d. I cannot be sincere and honest to tell the truth in this world. 

3. ‘Free to fly’
a. Low price air ticket rate to travel. 
b. Freedom to do what you believe. 
c. Express feelings freely through flying. 
d. The freedom of speech.

4. ‘Reflection’
a. The image of something as reflected by a mirror.
b. A long and careful consideration. 
c. Expressing grief and feelings passionately and demonstratively.
